High-Quality 3D-Printer FLSUN QQS
FLSUN QQs – Great quality 3D printer!
Although I wanted to get into 3D printing for some time now. I believed owning a high-quality 3D-printer is very costly and technically complicated. While I have highly experienced and readily available support from my father, who has quite a bit of experience in mechanical design as well as 3D printing, I saw his experience with various printers and it seemed daunting. Not only do I have no experience in designing my own parts, I’ve seen issues such as material clogging the nozzle or extruder issues which I thought would make it frustrating for me to own my own 3D printer. Recently my dad was experimenting with a delta printer. He experienced several issues relating to accuracy and firmware which although were frustrating, he was able to resolve by designing modifications for the printer. I told him I was thinking about buying a printer but was concerned about issues I would come across and he recommended I look into the FLSUN QQS.
I finally felt brave enough to jump into the deep end and ordered the FLSUN QQS.
The printer arrived in a box that looked like it was slightly beat up along the way from China, however, the content was very well packaged with layers of foam and bubble wrap. None of the parts were damaged.
Packaging
Included in the package:
- A sample role of PLA filament
- Magnetic auto leveling attachment
- Spare limit switch
- Spare thermistor (temperature sensor)
- Spare screws
- SD card
- USB and power wires
- Tools (allen keys, screwdriver, and a socket tool)
- gloves
Assembly
The QQs Assembly was quick and intuitive. All the tools needed were provided by FLSUN and the manual was well written and illustrated which made the assembly quick and painless. It was everything I expected from a high-quality 3D-printer. Total assembly time was one hour from the box to the first print! The only hiccup I encountered along the way was one of the wires fell into the base of the unit requiring me to open the base and push the wire back out. Overall assembly is simple even for a non-technical person.
First print
After an easy assembly, I was excited to see how easy printing would be. FLSUN has included an SD Card containing some sample files. I used the elephant phone holder. Calibration of the printer was straight forward using the printer included auto bed leveling sensor. The color touch screen is bright and easily readable making the process a snap. With the printer calibrated, it was off printing very quickly. The printer is relatively quiet and print went off without a hitch. Being a little impatient, I selected “Crazy” mode while the print was in progress and the printing sped up considerably. After the printing was complete I found it difficult to remove the finished part from the bed. I tried praying it away using the supplied spatula and when to part came off, it peeled a small piece of the bed coating. I contacted FLSUN customer support and explained the issue. FLSUN has shipped a replacement bed and also advised that the bed should be cleaned with alcohol.
Print quality
The demo file I used was quite good quality. Not knowing exactly what to expect, I was quite pleased with the output. Later on, I installed Cura on my computer and was able to adjust the parameters of models I printed to achieve even better print quality. For now, I am printing models I find online, but I plan on designing some items myself once I get comfortable operating one of the many 3D design software available. The QQS did not disappoint, it is a high-quality 3D-Printer, and I’m now addicted to printing!
q3D-Issues
Aside from the sensor cable that slipped back into the base during assembly. The only other issue I encountered was after assembling the printer and printing the first sample file, I moved it from the table where I assembled it to another location. Although I was very careful, I must have bumped the printer while moving it, causing the 115-230V switch on the power supply (inside the base) to flip from 115V to 230V. It took some time to troubleshoot using a multimeter to check if the power supply was receiving power at its input and wondering why there was no reading on the output. My dad, who was travelling at the time suggested I check the voltage switch and shortly following that I was back in business and printing again.
Overall thoughts
The FLSUN QQs lived up to all my expectations from a high-quality 3D-printer! It was very easy to assemble and use. It is fast, quiet and produces high-quality 3D-prints. The issues I ran into were very minor and easily solved. I received courteous support from FLSUN with the issue I had with the bed. Over all I am very happy with the product and would not hesitate recommending it!
